About the Program

The sacrifices and contributions that Métis Veterans made to defend Canada remain largely unknown. The Commemoration Program invites Métis citizens to propose projects that will honour, respect, and preserve the legacies of Métis Veterans to promote awareness of their contributions among the Métis Nation and the Canadian public. It will support and expand the efforts that Métis communities have traditionally undertaken to honour our Veterans such as hosting ceremonies and erecting monuments, along with establishing and developing new Métis Veteran-focused initiatives.

1. How to Apply

The MVLP is inviting those interested to apply for funding from the Commemoration Program, by applying with the Expression of Interest form.

The Expression of Interest form is the first step in the application process.

Once the form has been assessed, the applicant will be asked to submit their application to the MVLP, whereas all personal information will be removed to ensure anonymity and merit-based approval prior to being sent to the Commission for review.

Once the project has been approved, a contribution agreement will be established between the applicant and the MVLP, which will outline the terms and conditions.

2. How to Submit

Submit your Expression of Interest online, by email or mail to:

Métis Veterans Legacy Program
c/o Manitoba Métis Federation
3rd Floor – 150 Henry Avenue
Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 0J7

We recommend that you submit your proposal with a timeframe that allows for the processing and notification of funding.

There is no deadline for submissions.
Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Expressions of Interest will be considered for approval for a period of up to three years.

If you need further assistance throughout the application process, please reach out to the The MVLP at 1-800-532-1993 or email veteran.info@metisveterans.ca.

The MVLP may approve partial or full funding for a project. Expenses incurred before the project is approved will be subject to approval by the MVLP on a case-by-case basis. Decisions are based on the number and quality of applications received and available funding. Funding is granted based on the type of activity, timeline to complete the project, the identification of risks, and value.

Funding for any given project, including multi-year programs, will be up to a maximum of $100,000 per project, to a maximum total of $200,000 for multi-year projects. Recipients must adhere to these guidelines and the conditions set out in the contribution agreement.

Final Report

A final report must be submitted at the conclusion of the project, including a complete financial accounting of the project and evaluation. The report will enable the MVLP to fulfill the obligation of accountability back to primary stakeholders and measure the results and accomplishments of the project.
