Métis Nation commemorates the 75th anniversary of VE-Day

May 7, 2020 To acknowledge the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands and Victory in Europe (V-E Day), Vice-President David Chartrand and Minister responsible for Veterans of the Métis National Council has launched a national media campaign involving television, print and radio, in English and Michif. The campaign honours all Veterans who so bravely fought to end World War II. Our heroes today, tomorrow and forever.

Métis Nation Commemorates 75th Anniversary of D-Day

June 08, 2019- Though their numbers have shrunk to a handful who are no longer able to make the long journey to the beaches of Normandy, Métis Nation veterans of the Second World War live on in the thoughts and memories of succeeding generations.

June 08, 2019- Mr. Maurice is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. He has been volunteering to help Aboriginal Veterans for several years. This is a video which recorded his speech when he attended the 75th Anniversary of D- Day. 

Honouring Our Metis Veterans of the Second World War

On June 6, 2019, Veterans Affairs Minister Chartrand led 40 delegates of the Métis Nation to the official commemoration at Juno Beach to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, honouring our Metis Veterans of the Second World War.

Metis Vets 2017

In April 2017- the Government of Canada and the Métis Nation signed a permanent bilateral agreement, called the Canada-Métis Nation Accord. At that time, the President of the Métis National Council spoke about the need to address, in a timely manner, the recognition of Métis Veterans who served our great country and reconciling the longstanding grievance of the Métis Veterans in relation to their claim for compensation for post- World War II benefits.
